2020-09-16 Devotional:The Voice of God (Part 3) "It is I, do not be afraid"We will foster time to encounter the voice of God - to hear the words of Jesus personally to you and I. Today we look at these words God spoke to his disciples:
The sea became rough because a strong wind was blowing. 19 When they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the boat, and they were frightened. But he said to them, “It is I; do not be afraid.” Then they were glad to take him into the boat, and immediately the boat was at the land to which they were going.
2020-08-27 Devotional:The Voice of God (Part 2) " Before you were born... I knew you..."We will foster time to encounter the voice of God - to hear the words of Jesus personally to you and I. Today we look at these words God spoke to Jeremiah, and to hear them ourselves.
Now the word of the Lord came to me, saying, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.” (Jeremiah 1:4-5)
Quote from Eugene Peterson:
"Before it ever crossed our minds that God might be important, God singled us out as important. Before we were formed in the womb, God knew us. We are known before we know. We enter a world we didn’t create. We grow into a life already provided for us. We arrive in a complex of relationships with other wills and destinies that are already in full operation before we are introduced. My identity does not begin when I begin to understand myself. There is something previous to what I think about myself, and it is what God thinks of me. That means that everything I think and feel is by nature a response, and the one to whom I respond is God."
2020-08-14 Devotional: The Voice of Jesus (Part 1) "Come Unto Me"Today and the next devotionals we will foster time to encounter the voice of Jesus - to hear the words of Jesus personally to you and I. Today we look at the invitation in Matthew 11:
=== Matthew 11:28-29===
Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. (Matthew 11:28-29)
Today's song by Wes Terasaki is inspired by these same words, the lyrics are below, and there's a great version of this song to listen to here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ikSWUpiSSxw
Come unto me, all who are weak
Weary and heavy laden
Gentle am I, humble in heart
And you shall find rest for your soul.
All things are given unto those who believe
Princes and lowly ones His blessings receive
And just when I think that means everyone but me
Jesus comes beckoning to me
Enter the holy gates just as you are
No need for a happy face, just come with your heart
And Jesus will bring us a joyful melody
If only His calling we heed.
We are His little ones, children of God
Children and fellow heirs of His kingdome come
And we share the greatest love the world has ever seen
Here in the Lords family
2020-07-30 Devotional: Julian of Norwich "All things shall be well"On our July 19th service I mentioned the life of Julian Norwich, a 14th Century Anchoress who commited her life to prayer and spiritual contemplation. Her words that have inspired belivers through the centuries is that "all things shall be well again."
Two wonderful artistic productions as a result:
