From Desperation to Hope – The Book of Ruth
The Book of Ruth narrates the struggles of a common Israelite family amidst life’s storm. The troubles they faced can be likened to the havoc that COVID-19 virus hurls around the whole world, the massive exodus of refugees and emigrants, or the trauma of grass-root workers being involuntarily laid off or small businesses being abruptly suspended. Many can resonate with Naomi’s deep lament, “I went away full, and the LORD has brought me back empty. … the LORD has testified against me and the Almighty has brought calamity upon me.” As people who believe in God and who follow Christ, when caught up in troubles and adversities like these, how shall we pray to God? How shall we keep going? Where do we see light in the darkness?
